Our Adoption Process

If you have a question that has not been answered here, please check out the FAQ's.
We are an all-foster rescue and don't have a shelter where you can visit our animals.
DOGS

Our adoption process starts by filling out our application.  After the application is reviewed, we will make arrangements for you to meet the dog. If we determine that our pet is a good fit for your home, we perform a home visit to make sure that everything stated on your application is in order (fences, etc). Next, we have your existing pets meet with the rescue pet at a neutral location to make sure they get along. We will take the necessary steps to make sure your pet has been fully vetted before finalizing the adoption. In the case of puppies who are not old enough to be altered at the time of the adoption, we provide that service when they are old enough. It is a requirement of Pet Rescue of Maryland that all of our animals are spayed or neutered. The total time between meeting the animal and taking your new pet home is approximately 2 weeks. Please note that at this time we are only able to place our pets in homes that are within 30-40 miles of Baltimore, MD. The adoption fee for our dogs is $400 and includes veterinary examination; testing for heartworm, ehrlichiosis, Lyme disease and anaplasmosis; spaying/neutering; vaccinations for rabies, distemper, lepto, bordetella; and de-worming. In addition, we microchip all dogs . You can find our online dog application here. If are unable to download the application, please email info@petrescueofmd.org and request a dog application.

Depending on the cat, a home visit may be requested. In the case of kittens who are not old enough to be altered at the time of the adoption, we provide that service when they are old enough.   General Information

Pet Rescue of MD reserves the right to deny any application for any reason.

It is our goal to place each animal in the best permanant home. Each animal has their own specific needs and requirements. Applications are judged on who best fits the needs of the animal and not the date the application was submitted. We do not ship animals.

We are only able to adopt to families who live within 30-40 miles of the Baltimore, MD area. We are required to do a home visit and do not have the resources to travel long distances to conduct these visits. Please check petfinder.com or your local shelter for animals in your neighborhood.

We do not advocate the adoption of very young animals to families with very young children. We do not adopt puppies or kittens to families with children under the age of 7.

We never do same day adoptions. The process generally takes 2 weeks for dogs and 1 week for cats.
All animals must be spayed or neutered. No exceptions.
