This sweet, very loyal, eager to please golden wannabe has really come a long way from being a stray that GoldHeart rescued from a high kill shelter in North Carolina.   She is believed to be between 1-2 years old, weighs about 64 lb. and will probably always have a short coat.  She is quite settled in the house where she will curl up at your feet wherever you may be but is a rough and tumble girl when playing in the yard with her foster brother.  She loves to play fetch with the large Jolly Ball and will play keep away but eventually brings it back to you especially if you have a yummy treat to trade.

She really enjoys playing with toys inside and has never chewed anything that wasn’t hers.  Nylabones are her chew toy of choice. Having few manners when she first came to foster care, she now knows sit, down, stay, come, and is walking very nicely on a leash and really likes her daily walks.  She has learned a good ‘leave it’ command  and  hasn’t been countersurfing as she did when she first came.   She was housebroken right from the start and has never had an accident. She definitely aims to please and had no problem feeling very comfortable in new situations like the vet office and the obedience class she attended with her foster mom where she outshone the other dogs.  She only went for the last 3 classes of the session so it was quite an accomplishment and her foster mom was so proud.  At first, she didn’t like being handled but with patient understanding to earn her trust she now is calm for grooming including ear cleaning, nail trims,  brushing(even her tail which was the hardest part) and tooth brushing.  She loves a ride in the car.  She is crate trained but is fine if left on her own.

She tested heartworm positive(no symptoms) and has been successfully treated but it will be necessary for her to remain on monthly heartworm meds with heartworm testing a year from the initial heartworm treatment along with the usual vet care.
Though she is great with people she has had a few skirmishes with her foster brothers and definitely doesn’t like dogs in her face.  She has learned to be peaceful with her foster brothers but it took strong leadership from her foster mom to overcome this shortcoming.  She also has a high prey drive, especially for cats.  A home where she is an only pet and children 10 yrs. or up would be best for her.  A fenced in yard to play in will be a necessity.
