Steve has been a family dog all his life. He was raised from a pup in a home with a young cat and an older Rottweiler. The last five years of his life, he has resided with two dogs of the same breed, which are a little older. He spends most of his days running around the backyard chasing his ball around.
Steve’s personality is best described as hyperactive. He is always ready to walk, play, work on commands, and go in the car…whatever you want him to do. He likes to play with the kids (8-13 years old), but gets excited and has jumped and nipped in the past. He is obsessive with wanting to play fetch with the ball. Do not trust Steve to play with tennis balls, he will crush it, rip apart, and probably ingest. Hard rubber Kong balls are good, as are larger, tougher made balls. Frisbee is his favorite, but he will not want to surrender at end of play and will chew it up if leave with him.
He is a quick learner. He needs help keeping focus, but will listen with consistency. He walks well on leash. He will do anything for a treat. I would trust him with small pets only after supervision and reinforcement to be gentle/easy. I would not trust him off-lead, he likes chase things going fast. Has not done it, but worry about him chasing cars.
